Brownsville native Tyree White is turning what he learned by playing basketball into a future full of opportunities.
Back in 2013, White was on the Hostos Community College basketball team and earned a full scholarship to Queens College before playing professionally in Canada.
"My dream was for basketball to take me out of the hood, but I didn't know it would take me out of the hood and have a lot more," he says.
White started a family and wanted to come back to Brooklyn and get some stability, but didn't want to lose the sense of teamwork he loved about basketball. He found a place that checked all those boxes- the NYPD.
White says he's not sure exactly what direction he wants to take his NYPD career long-term, but for now, he's just enjoying the ride.
