An 11-day-old baby in Brownsville died Friday after going into cardiac arrest.
Shareese McFadden, the child's mother, says the newborn was taking a nap when she noticed his lips turning blue. McFadden says she immediately began to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and called 911.
McFadden says that when first responders arrived at the Van Dyke Houses and were taking the child to the hospital, the complex's elevator got stuck, trapping police and EMTs who were trying to rescue her baby.
"The elevator, it got stuck," she says. "They were still giving him CPR in the elevator and he wasn't breathing."
McFadden says she isn't blaming her child's death on the elevator, which is said to have only been stuck for seconds. However, a full investigation into the delay is ongoing.
