Residents saw a brush fire burn through Marine Park this weekend, and Gov. Kathy Hochul says that risk is still present tonight.
The burn ban that is in place through March 16 is set to protect New Yorkers
from the wildfire risk - something exacerbated by dry air and frequent winds.
In accordance with the ban, a Parks Department spokesperson tells News 12 that barbecuing in public parks is prohibited.
This includes in areas that are typically "designated barbecuing areas."
The spokesperson also reminds New Yorkers that smoking or open flames are never permitted in New York City parks or gardens.
