Patients of a Bushwick health clinic say the facility is trying to discretely close its doors, leaving residents to fend for themselves.Barbara Sabir, who goes to St. Francis of Assisi Family Health Center, located at 333 Knickerbocker Ave., says she learned about the closure after she arrived for an appointment Wednesday. Residents argue the clinic, operated by Kingbrook Jewish Medical Center, provides quality service and is vital to the area.
Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center confirms the Bushwick facility is one of five clinics it's closing in the borough. The medical center cites financial reasons for the decision, saying the state only reimburses the clinics 55 cents for every dollar they provide in care. Administrators say the Bushwick clinic will send out letters to patients.
The St. Francis of Assisi Family Health Center is set to close June 29.
