A Bushwick competitor in this weekend's New York City Marathon is hoping to inspire others to become organ donors.
Linda Bernal says her motivation was sparked by her friend who died during a road rage incident in her Texas hometown.
" [Casey Blanton] was super loving, he loved animals, loved his family, so outgoing, there was never a dull moment with him," she told News 12 Brooklyn.
So far, she has raised $2,500 for the nonprofit Live On, which is dedicated to organ donation.
Karen Cummings, of Live On, says New York ranks last in the United States in terms of registered organ donors.
Bernal says she hopes plenty of people will be cheering her on from the sides as her team Donate Life takes on 26.2 miles this Sunday.
