The elevators at Brooklyn Heights' Clark Street subway station have been broken 400 times over two years, according to a report.
The report goes on to say that's a rate of one breakdown every other day. Straphangers say an 80-foot staircase, used mostly in emergencies, is the only alternate way of entering or exiting the station. While the elevators were working Tuesday, commuters complain that's not the norm.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority argues the breakdowns are due to high usage, and says it is not planning any special maintenance beyond what it is already doing.
