The mother of a student who says he was stabbed with a pencil by a classmate is upset over how school officials handled the matter.
Hersaan Wilkins, a 12-year-old student says he was stabbed in the back of the head with a pencil Emolior Academy Thursday. Wilkins says he went to the nurse and the assistant principal, and then walked home by himself.
Wilkins' mother complained the assistant principal never gave her the chance to pick her son up from school. She says she was instructed to seek medical attention for her son when he got home. However, the woman believes the right thing to do would have been to pick him up and take him directly to the hospital.
In a statement, the Department of Education (DOE) explained how the situation was handled. DOE officials are trying to determine what action the administration will take.
