Hundreds of Bronx students gathered at Lehman High School on Saturday to compete in the first Lego League competition.

There were 48 teams in attendance, and each team had to get its robot to complete 13 tasks in just 2 and a half minutes. The robots, which were built by the teams, were made from Legos.

Gary Israel, the first Lego League coordinator, said that the competition would teach students a lot more than just how to build a robot.

?The teams will build their robots to accomplish certain missions in addition to the competition part where robots have to do these various missions. They also have to present their robot in a technical judging,? Israel said.

The winner will go on to compete in the city competition for a spot in the nationals.
