Neighbors in Canarsie are fed up with seeing piles of garbage steps away from their doors.

They said it's an issue that's been going on for years behind one building on East 80th Street. But they believe it has gotten worse since the supermarket that used to be there relocated.

Neighbors said they have been complaining to the city about the issue and want something to be done.

"It's impeding our way to get to our community driveway, which is how we have to get there," said Camillia Cudjoe. "I'm just concerned about rodents and animals that are going to soon end up in the area, and you won't be able to you won't be able to walk here."

A spokesperson for the city's Sanitation Department confirmed the property is privately owned and summonses were issued to the owner Wednesday. The agency warned anyone caught not putting trash in its proper place can be fined.
