Caribbean Carnival gets early start in Brooklyn

<p>The West Indian American Day Carnival Association is celebrating the 50th anniversary of New York Caribbean Carnival Week and held a launch event Thursday evening at the Brooklyn Children's Museum.</p>

The West Indian American Day Carnival Association is celebrating the 50th anniversary of New York Caribbean Carnival Week and held a launch event Thursday evening at the Brooklyn Children's Museum.
The museum was filled with tassa drummers, a pan band, masqueraders, dancers, Caribbean food and more.
Carnival Week organizers also announced the new features of this year's parade and the activities that will be held in the community leading up to the big day.
The West Indian American Day Parade steps off this Labor Day, Sept. 4.
