The launch party for the week featured steel panorama music and people dressed in traditional carnival costumes. The festivities are all hosted by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and the West Indian American Day Carnival Association.
One of the 14 participating restaurants is Suede, which offers a modern take on Caribbean cuisine by combining authentic flavors with an adventurous twist. Some of Suede's other menu highlights include jerk chicken, coconut-crusted snapper, vegetable roti and bread pudding.
D'Savannah restaurant, another participator, gave out samples of its mango pineapple chow. It's offering $20 lunch and $35 dinner specials during the week.
Caribbean Restaurant Week runs until June 29.
