Whether it's applying for visa or finding health assistance, navigating the immigration system isn't easy. Organizers say navigating that process has become even harder due to the pandemic. The resource fair was open to all New Yorkers regardless of their citizenship status.
Information was provide on how to apply for housing assistance, what to do if your loved one's visa is rejected, how to sign up for English language classes and more. One-on-one legal consultation was also available.
The fair was put on by the Catholic Charities of New York and local partners. They say immigrants, especially those who are undocumented, are often more vulnerable to systemic injustices.
In 2020, the Pew Research Center published a study that found that almost 15% of immigrants in the U.S. were living in poverty.
