Exclusive video obtained by News 12 shows someone walking into a driveway in Canarsie, opening a car and quickly leaving.

Tanya Seguinot, the owner of the car, says she noticed missing items from the vehicle the next day.

Seguinot says it wasn't until she looked back at her security video that she realized what happened.

“They took souvenirs that we had brought from our trip. They took my license, my registrations, my insurance card. They took a knife out of my car," said Seguinot.

Police say it took place Sunday just before 10:30 a.m. on Avenue J.

Seguinot told her neighbor Deon Brown to see if he may have experienced the same thing.

“My neighbor came and alerted me so I went and looked and everything was disrupted which is not a good thing. I don’t feel safe knowing that someone can just come in your car like that," said Brown.

Brown says his car was locked but believes he may have fallen victim to the same thing.

He tells News 12 he also plans on filing a police report.

“I’m very surprised because usually we never had no break in before. This never happened. We have to be more alert going forward and pay more attention to our surroundings," said Brown.

Seguinot says it's really unsettling because she was home when it happened.

“I feel very violated. It takes away your peace of mind to think you work very hard every day. And this is what happens," said Seguinot.

She tells News 12 she normally uses an app to lock her car but claims she's experienced recent glitches that caused the door to unlock. She says she's ramping up security measures.

“After that, everything here is going to be private. All these gates are going to be changed and no one can just walk in here today. That's where my peace of mind is now. That's  our family's peace of mind is right now," said Seguinot.

The NYPD says drivers can keep their car safe by rolling up windows, taking the keys out of the ignition and locking their doors.
