A Dyker Heights family says they are lucky to be alive after a terrifying home invasion that was caught on camera.
Surveillance footage from a Ring camera shows three men creeping through the backyard gate of the Marinakis family home at around 3:40 a.m. on Monday morning.
The men walked up the back steps and broke in, all while Michael Marinakis, his wife and their four children were asleep upstairs.
“It was a get-up-and-fight-for-your-life type of moment,” Marinakis told News 12.
Despite several visible “No Trespassing” signs, surveillance cameras and a locked gate, the suspects were undeterred.
Marinakis said two of the intruders entered the home, and he believes they were armed, while the third stood outside as a lookout.
Marinakis credits his neighbor, who happened to be awake around 3:40 a.m., for alerting him.
“He was actually going to the restroom and happened to look out his window and see people in my driveway and called my cellphone,” Marinakis said.
Police say the suspects used a crowbar to pry open a window.
While nothing was taken from the home, the attempted burglary has left the family shaken.
The three suspects were later seen fleeing the area in a dark-colored vehicle.
Police are continuing their investigation and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
