A camera at an East New York apartment captured what appears to be a man setting fire to the apartment.

The fire started around 3 p.m. outside an apartment in the building on Sheffield Avenue.

Residents ran outside in shock but said what shocked them even more was when they watched back the footage from their Blink camera.

"Like, I really wouldn't wish this on anybody, not even my worst enemy and I don't even have any," said resident Katiana Ciceron after her Blink camera captured the incident.

In the video, a man is seen walking up to her family's apartment door, dousing it with liquid and setting it on fire.

"It was shocking because I've never seen somebody with that kind of intention," Ciceron said. She was not home at the time, but her mother was.

A neighbor alerted Ciceron's mother about the flames.

No one was hurt, but the damage was already done.

"Soot and blackness throughout the third floor. The whole entire third floor is damaged," said Arthur Warren, president of the Resident Association for the Long Island Baptist Houses. He said the fire just reveals long standing issues that management has ignored.

"Basically, people coming in and wandering in the building all times of night," Warren specified. In fact, Ciceron's Blink camera captured what appeared to be the same man visiting her apartment 12 hours earlier.

"Him again at 4:04 a.m. Same outfit," she said while pointing out to a Blink video on her cellphone.

Council Member Charles Barron visited the building. He said funds have already been allocated to fix doors in NYCHA complexes across the city, but it is not that simple.

"NYCHA, that whole management thing with NYCHA and getting things done in a timely fashion, is always a challenge," Barron said.

News 12 reached out to NYCHA to see how it will move forward when it comes to security inside the building. NYCHA referred News 12 to the fire department.

As for what is next for Ciceron and her family, she told News 12 they were still trying to figure that out as of Sunday night.
