Viva Morgan and her son started Friends of Wingate Park 13 years ago when her son was 19.
Morgan taught her son that residents are who drive change in a community. With help from volunteers, the organization runs a series of events.
The two say a large part of the neighborhood's success is due to them and others advocating for what the area needs.
"We have our food distribution program, we do a book reading series in the park. There's a lot of programs we do have and we need money to sustain it. They're important,” said Morgan.

Morgan is hoping to expand the organization’s programming and is accepting community donations.
