Two top Chipotle executives have issued an apology to NYPD officers who were greeted by a restaurant employee making the "hands up, don't shoot" gesture earlier this month.
The executives said in a statement that the worker's action appeared to be spontaneous, and that appropriate action was taken.
The gesture, which has become popular among police protesters, was made at a Chipotle location in Brooklyn on Dec. 16.
Officials say the officers were not refused service, but chose to leave.
