To combat this dangerous statistic, the city announced Project Home - a pilot program that will help domestic violence survivors find safe, permanent homes and reduce their time spent in shelters.
The program is part of over $43 million being invested to increase gender equity across the city.
Officials say that 100 families staying in city shelters due to domestic violence will be chosen at random. Afterward, they will be connected to professionals for one year that will help them secure permanent and safe housing.
