Schools in the Bronx and the rest of the city are set to see a boost in funding from Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D-N.Y.).The governor will be unveiling his state budget proposal Tuesday. The proposal calls for city schools to see $8.1 billion in funding for the 2008-09 year. Aides to Gov. Spitzer say the proposal includes $490 million to run the schools on a daily basis, a 7 percent increase over the current budget. Some are criticizing the proposal. The executive director of the Alliance for Quality Education say the increase is 28 percent less than originally proposed. Critics say the proposal will mean fewer chances for more teachers, which would limit efforts to reduce class sizes.According to the Associated Press, most of the funding in the governor's budget plan will focus on building aid.
