Several City Council members are calling on Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration for more public housing apartments for homeless New Yorkers.
Council members are asking that the number of apartments be increased to at least 2,500 units each year. Right now, NYCHA's current proposal allocates only 750 public housing apartments each year to homeless families.
The council members say that 750 apartments is far less than the city allocated under previous mayors, even though the number of homeless families in New York City is at its highest.
Besides holding a news conference Tuesday at City Hall, the council members have also collected signatures for a letter that they plan to deliver to the mayor.
