To honor the memory of Lizbeth Mass, City Island Rising, a community-based nonprofit organization, started a
GoFundMe to raise money to build a memorial for her.
While working as a flag woman at a construction site by the City Island bridge, Mass was suddenly shot and killed in April.
It was a harrowing incident that deeply struck the people of City Island.
There are still candles and flowers left out for her by the bridge, along with the actual construction hat Mass wore on the job.
Although the 52-year-old did not live on the island, she was respected by the community and was known as a warm and caring person.
