The city's plans for a new bridge in City Island is garnering some resistance from local residents.
City Island residents say they want the Department of Transportation to consider building a causeway, which would not require stanchions to be placed in the water for support. They say the current bridge that leads into the island is also designed as a causeway, which is their preference.
"From what I've heard of the new design, it seems like it would cause bad access to people with large and small boats - not a workable solution for everybody," says City Island resident Edward Hoff.
However, while some City Island residents say they have a problem with the proposed design, others say the current bridge is more than 100 years old and they're grateful to have something new.
The new bridge is expected to be built by 2011.
