Phase 2 of the G train shutdowns are officially underway, officials say.
From July 5 - Aug. 12, G trains will not operate between the Court Square and Bedford Nostrand Avenue stations. Then from Aug. 12 to Sept. 13, there will be no train service between Bedford Nostrand and Church avenues. The goal of this shutdown is to repair the line and make it more efficient for riders.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority workers, along with the interim president Demetrius Crichlow and G train czar Hugo Zamora, passed out pamphlets informing people in the neighborhood about the changes.
"We felt it was important to get out here and talk to customers directly about the impacts to their commute. We've set up a really aggressive program for busing, and so we want to make sure our customers know all of our services that we made available to them," said Crichlow.
"When we are finished here, you are going to come back to a brighter, cleaner, faster better G line," said Zamora.
Also starting this weekend, the F train will be shut down completely between Church Avenue and the Coney Island–Stillwell Avenue station. This will take place for several weekends this summer. They will also include the weekends of July 12, Aug. 9 and every weekend after that through Sept. 16.
During those weekends, the MTA says shuttle buses will be available.
