City to demolish ‘eyesore’ home in Flatlands
The city Department of Housing Preservation and Development says demolition is set to happen in the next few days on an eyesore in Flatlands.
The home in question is on Avenue I and East 55th Street.
The Department of Buildings issued a full vacate order for the building in 2014. Neighbors say the homeowner, who they say has a problem with hoarding, moved out of the home to live in a trailer parked just outside the property.
The DOB says they issued an emergency declaration for demolition of the house in Oct. 2018. That emergency declaration was then referred to the Department of Housing Preservation and Development to hire contractors to perform demolition.
On Wednesday morning, News 12 saw workers cleaning the property of debris.
The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's rat portal indicates that the agency found "problem conditions" at this property nearly every year dating back to 2010.
