The city is moving ahead with plans to build a park and parking lot in downtown Brooklyn even as residents fight to defend the homes standing in the way.
While a city report found Duffield Street did play a role in the Abolitionist Movement, researchers found no evidence that the houses were part of the Underground Railroad.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg has formed a six-member panel to develop a cultural organization commemorating the block's anti-slavery past. However, residents feel Bloomberg is talking about preserving the area while working to tear it down at the same time.
