Climate activists held the “March to End Fossil Fuels” in Manhattan on Sunday.

Over 700 organizations marched in solidarity to call on President Joe Biden to stop all federal approvals for new fossil fuel projects, phase out production of fossil fuels on federal public lands, build a new clean energy future, and declare a climate emergency.

Speakers included Rep. Jamaal Bowman, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, scientist Peter Kalmus and others.

“Climate change is complicated but what’s not complicated is that there are three things that cause the wildfires, the floods, the extreme weather that are [displacing] millions of families…and that’s oil, gas, and coal,” said Tzeporah Berman, chair and founder of Global Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.

The march was held ahead of the United Nations Secretary General's Climate Ambition Summit in New York City, the first-ever climate summit where countries are expected to present fossil fuel phaseout plans and commit to no new fossil fuel production.
