Collapsed ceiling causing concern in Coney Island NYCHA apartment

A Coney Island family is concerned after the ceiling collapsed inside of their NYCHA apartment at the Unity Towers.
Nacobia Williams is now putting a facemask on her 6-month-old daughter because she’s worried about what the newborn is breathing in.
“I feel frustration,” said Williams. “I feel anger. I’m scared because I don’t know what’s in this [air].”
Williams said it all started a little over a month ago, when a leak ran along the ceiling of her living room and dining area.
Then it bubbled and burst onto her, the newborn, as well as her two sons.
“It was brown water,” said Williams. “It was plaster. It was pieces of the wall that came down.”

“This is deployable conditions,” said Williams. “We shouldn’t have to live like this. We keep getting sick. We’re back and forth from the hospital; and [NYCHA is] like, ‘We’re going to fix it.’ [And then] nothing.”
Williams old News 12 that she can’t use the outlets on the wall, and NYCHA turned off her heat about two weeks ago.
“They cut off the heat due to the steam leaking out of this hole here, so now it’s been cold,” said Williams.
She said she is up to date on her rent and is now demanding answers from NYCHA.
“Get it together,” yelled Williams. “We need immediate repairs!”
News 12 reached out to NYCHA on Tuesday.
A spokesperson said Williams and her family are expected to move to a temporary apartment by Friday. NYCHA will then make repairs and return the family to their home as soon as possible.
