March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Doctors recommend that people between the ages of 45 and 75 start screening for colorectal cancer as it is the best preventative practice.
Doctors at Essen Healthcare in the Bronx say that colorectal cancer is the most common form of cancer and second-leading cause of cancer deaths.
Screenings are done through colonoscopy procedures, which can reveal cancerous tissue growths and can even be treated in the same session.
Essen Healthcare will host a colorectal cancer awareness month event Saturday for community members to get free personalized risk assessments and schedule screenings.
