Friends, neighbors and relatives of Saheed Vassell are calling on the NYPD to release more video and the names of the officers involved in his shooting death in Crown Heights.
Along with his father, Eric Vassell, they packed the 71st Precinct's community council meeting to discuss the issues Thursday night.
As News 12 has reported, multiple 911 callers reported the 34-year-old Vassell for allegedly waving a gun around in public, pointing it at people. Surveillance video shows him pointing an object at multiple passersby. At one point, he can be seen shoving it in an adult's face with a child in tow.
Responding officers and witnesses mistook the metal pipe in his hand for a gun, and when he aimed it at police, they shot him to death in the street, according to authorities.
After the shooting, police say they determined the object in his hand was a metal pipe with a ball at the end.
Eric Vassell says he wants police to provide "clear and convincing" evidence that proves officers responded properly.
The state attorney general's office is investigating the incident.
