Community came together this Good Friday at Saint Michael’s Church on 42nd Street following the terrifying subway attack in Sunset Park.

The church is just a few blocks away from where Tuesday’s shooting took place. Time was taken to reflect and stand together as one.

Organized by the Churches United for Fair Housing, people from the neighborhood stood outside the church.

"It's a moment of deep reflection around a lot of the trauma and pain before we enter the Easter festivities,” says Whitney Hu, with Churches United for Fair Housing. “It felt like a fitting moment to make space"

Also in attendance was Maria, who was on board the train Tuesday morning. In Spanish, she spoke about how she was so scared and didn't know what was happening because there were hardly any announcements and the ones that were made were only in English.

Her church family surrounded her in support and said they'll continue to be there for her.

In addition to offering the community a chance to reflect, they say this was also about showing solidarity for the community.
