The Prospect Heights community is mourning the loss of a well-known restaurant owner.
Gus Vlahavas, the owner of Tom's Restaurant on Washington Avenue, passed away on Tuesday.
His family restaurant opened back in 1936 and has remained so popular that customers still line up around the corner every weekend.
Vlahavas handed the management over to his nephew a few years ago, but continued to work there.
A wake will be held Sunday at Cobble Hills Chapels. His funeral will be Monday at Saints Constantine and Helen Cathedral.
