Residents and businesses are bracing for weekend L train service to be shut down.

The subway line is shutting down this weekend between Manhattan and Broadway Junction for 15 weekends as the MTA continues repairs to the Canarsie Tunnel.

The L train will only run between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway from 11:30 p.m. Friday until Monday morning. The tunnel needs to be repaired after Superstorm Sandy destroyed a significant portion of it.

The MTA has been telling people about the closure for months by postings signs over the Bedford Avenue stop, but some say they didn't realize the time had come.

"To be honest I didn’t actually know it was going to be shutting down so soon, so I haven’t actually looked into other forms of transportation," says Rajiv Kumar, of Bushwick.

The MTA says free shuttle buses will replace the line but community members say they don’t think it will make it any easier.

The MTA says this weekend marks the start of some of the work. The preview of the total shutdown for next year will also help the MTA troubleshoot and see if it is able to stick to its plan during the 15-month shutdown.

The shutdown runs from 11:30 p.m. Friday until services resumes at 5:30 a.m. Monday.
