Con Edison says it is struggling with conducting gas meter inspections this year because some tenants are not allowing inspectors to come in.
It says the inspection is a mandatory procedure, which is done every five years.
“We're working with the landlords and the supers. So it's really important that the tenants reach out to their super and their landlords to make sure that they're in compliance, make sure that they're following the rules so that the whole building is safe,” says Alfonso Quiroz, a spokesperson for Con Edison.

Quiroz is encouraging people to ask for identification and call to confirm with Con Edison when someone is trying to enter their home.
Con Edison has issued 1,100 gas service termination notices throughout the city, with 380 of those in the Bronx.
