340ds agoOrganizers revealed on Wednesday the annual Mermaid Parade in Coney Island will be canceled for 2021.
"When we set the September date, we hoped that the Parade, the largest art parade in the nation and a point of civic pride for Coney Island, would represent a return to normalcy," the statement says. "Unfortunately, COVID-19 is not finished with us quite yet."
Officials note the risk to sponsors, patrons, the community and the staff were kept in mind when making the decision.
They confirm the parade is expected to return in 2022.
