The city Department of Sanitation is awarding thousands of dollars to a Bushwick school after students won a citywide environmental contest.
The Green Team club at Evergreen Middle School was tasked with converting an empty lot into an outdoor classroom.
The club won by building a garden full of kale, peas, cucumbers and more for the purpose of environmental education.
School officials say the $10,000 prize will go toward future educational programs centered on composting and water conservation.
