High temperatures are coming to Long Island, and PSEG is warning the high demand for electricity could cause heat-related power outages.
The Town of Oyster Bay will open three ice rinks operating as cooling centers on Tuesday. The town is also extending the hours at its pools and beaches.
The ice rinks - located in Bethpage, Massapequa and Woodbury - open at 9 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. starting Tuesday through Sunday.
Oyster Bay Town pools will be open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tobay Beach will stay open until 6 p.m. for swimming.
Children will also be able to use the Tobay Spray Park during the week until 6 p.m. and until 7 p.m. this Friday and over the weekend.
Officials also say that anyone who has to be outside over the next few days should not wear dark clothes, drink plenty of water and should not do anything strenuous during the hottest parts of the day.
The combination of high temperatures and the humidity could be especially dangerous for senior citizens.
Cooling centers, pools, beaches and the spray park are open to Oyster Bay Town resident and their guests.
