Police say two men who allegedly mugged and beat an elderly woman in Baychester were caught after mistakenly hailing an undercover police car during their getaway.
According to police, Antoine Mitchell and Michael Jordan, both 21, attacked Olga Rosario Wednesday night inside an elevator in the Baychester Houses.
Police say Mitchell and Jordan fled when neighbors called 911 after hearing the 70-year-old's screams. The two alleged muggers then tried hailing a cab during their escape, but instead flagged down an unmarked police car.
According to police, detectives asked the winded men for identification and one of them mistakenly pulled out the wallet taken from Rosario. Both suspects were then arrested and charged with robbery, assault and attempting to escape.
Rosario was taken to North Central Bronx Hospital and is in intensive care.
