Police officers from the 49th Precinct are teaming up with Bronx residents to clean up graffiti.
The precinct has launched an anti-graffiti initiative to battle the problem along Eastchester Road and other streets.
"We're just trying to preserve the quality of life of this community," said Officer Victor DiPierro. "Kids are [also] getting the message that graffiti won't be tolerated in this precinct through arrests that have been made."
Residents said they're more than happy to help.
"Any individual that can even think of putting graffiti on a church has no shame whatsoever," said volunteer Mark Anthony Mellone. "So this is something I'd like to help clean up."
The precinct plans to paint more than 30 sites each week.
