While hoverboards are growing in popularity, they are illegal to ride along streets in New York City, but some politicians are working to change that.
City Councilman Andy King is proposing legislation that would permit the use of hoverboards on sidewalks and in parks and playgrounds.
"We don't want to wait until Dec. 26 when you got 500 kids who got hoverboards on the streets," says King.
Community Advocate Tony Herbert says children as young as 8 or 12 years old are using hoverboards, and it's not right to criminalize them.
The legislation is being drafted by King, who hopes it will be ready in next year.
