A crane collapse Thursday morning in Bushwick startled nearby residents who were still sleeping.
NYPD officials say no one was hurt when the crane came down on Evergreen Avenue. The crane's operators had received two violations from the city's Department of Buildings this past year. The first violation was issued for operating a crane without a license. The second was for working with an expired permit.
After two crane collapses in the city this year, the DOB has hired engineering experts to study crane operations and has expanded crane-inspection checklists from 35 items to more than 200.
The DOB says safely removing the broken crane will take a couple of hours.
