Emergency crews responded to a two-alarm fire at a housing development Saturday morning in Williamsburg.
The flames broke out at the city Housing Authority's Taylor-Wythe Houses at around 8 a.m. The fire started in a fourth-floor, one-bedroom apartment and then spread into the hallway, officials say. About 100 firefighters responded to the blaze, which was extinguished in a little more than an hour.
All of the tenants were safely evacuated, but two dogs and a cat died in the flames.
The Red Cross will provide temporary housing for the displaced family.
The FDNY is working to determine the cause of the fire.
