Coney Island?s Astroland is set to close most of its rides and games September 9, and people are turning out from all over to celebrate the park?s last hurrah.
Astroland?s looming finale drew patrons from all over during Labor Day weekend and big crowds have meant big business.
?I don't picture Coney Island being Coney Island without the rides,? said one patron who is sad to see the park go.
The landmark Cyclone and Wonder Wheel will stay put, but the future of boardwalk businesses is up in the air.
Thor Equities isn?t set to break ground on its new luxury apartments and revamped amusement park until next summer, so some believe there?s a chance the Astroland rides will go around one last season.
Coney Island leaders want people to know that next season, much-loved attractions like the Mermaid Parade and Freak Show will still be around.
