Crown Heights residents say the presence of buses, speeding, and accidents on a congested, narrow street have them petrified to even leave the house.

Residents say St. John's Place has become dangerous in recent months. They say crashes, an enormous amount of traffic, and horrific accidents happen on the street constantly.

"It doesn't make any sense for two buses to be on this really skinny stretch and it causes problems up and down. Those problems cause traffic on Nostrand," says resident Robert LaPointe.

Just a few weeks ago, on the corner of St. John's Place and Nostrand Avenue, two children and an adult were hit on their way to school, as a driver hopped the curb and struck the adult.

Buses trying to make their way down the narrow strip has also posed problems.

Vivian Ferguson has been a resident of St. John's Place for 51 years and says she's been fighting for a safer street since the 1980s.

"This is just a problem, and we had this problem before and we tried before to reroute the bus and we were denied," Ferguson says. "I would like to see a one-way street. These buses have got to go."

Residents also say they don't feel comfortable letting their kids go to the corner store out of fear that incoming traffic will potentially hurt them.

Neighbors say they will continue to advocate for a safer street to live on with driving laws enforced and buses rerouted.

News 12 reached out to the MTA and the Department of Transportation. The MTA says, "Our borough bus network redesigns are meant to reimagine the borough's bus network and is driven by customer feedback." The MTA added, "the core of the redesign to improve evolving needs of local communities and considering factors, such as population growth, commute times and travel patterns to be considered. The forthcoming Brooklyn bus network redesign is expected to include a look at the B45 and B44 routes; this is a good opportunity for those with concerns about the route to get them addressed."
