Demonstrators gathered in Washington Square Park to call for the impeachment of Gov. Andrew Cuomo amid several sexual harassment accusations.
Lindsey Boylan, one of Cuomo's accusers, led the rally alongside other local politicians on Saturday. The group marched to state Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie's Manhattan office.
Speakers at the rally say they believe Cuomo cares more about himself and his friends than the people he is supposed to represent. Boylan says she believes Heastie needs to stop using his power to protect those around him like the governor and start using it to get accountability.
"When we don't hold our leaders accountable, we allow them to continue their abuse and impunity," she says. "The only way we can hold this governor accountable is to impeach him. The assembly must act swiftly."
Boylan is  a candidate for Manhattan borough president.
People at the rally say they also came out to express support for the Invest in Our New York Act.
The act is a set of six bills aimed at raising taxes on the rich and benefiting the state's excluded workers and homeless population. Speakers at the rally say this is another way the state could better represent the people.
Heastie said on Friday said the body's impeachment investigation will examine “all credible allegations” against the governor, including whether he used his office to sexually harass or assault employees.
“Your charge is to determine whether evidence exists to support a finding that the governor has engaged in conduct, as governor, that violates the laws of the State of New York and whether such violations constitute serious and corrupt conduct in office that may justify articles of impeachment,” Heastie wrote in a letter to Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Lavine.
