Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio are calling on the federal government for more supply of the coronavirus vaccine to help get more New Yorkers their shots quicker.
The governor says New York is getting about 300,000 vaccines per week, which he says that is not enough.
Cuomo says the state needs to vaccinate 20 million people twice. At this rate, Cuomo says doling out 40 million shots will take a long time.
Cuomo says he has spoken to the federal government about approving additional vaccines, such as the ones created by AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson, to help boost the supply.
The governor says 2.1 million health care workers in the state need the vaccine. So far, just 900,000 shots have been distributed.
De Blasio also sent a letter to Vice President Mike Pence outlining the city's needs, which he says include a fair share of the vaccine and help with distribution.
