Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that the MTA will resume 24/7 subway service across the city on May 17.

For over a year now, subway service was first suspended from 1 a.m. through 5 a.m., and then the city moved it from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. During those hours, MTA workers would disinfect stations and trains.

Cuomo said with thousands of more New Yorkers returning to work, it was only right to give people access to take the subways at any hour.

Cuomo said his office is working with the MTA to ensure that city subways stay clean as curfews begin to lift as soon as May 19.

That's when he said the first phase of reopening the state will begin, as most capacity restrictions and curfews end across the state. Curfews will ease for restaurants, retail, museums, theaters, hair salons and gyms.
