Cuts to HIV and AIDS funding are taking their toll on organizations across Brooklyn.
The Brownsville Multi-Service Family Health Center helps hundreds with HIV and Aids every year. Officials at the center say under a new contract with the Department of Health, Brooklyn patients are being shortchanged. They say drug counseling, mental health counseling and access to legal services will have to be cut.
New York City Comptroller William Thompson says Brooklyn will go from having nine sites that provide legal services to three. He criticizes how the city is distributing $471 million from the federal government.
Officials with programs that are affected by the cuts say they plan to lobby politicians to restore funding.
