Dozens of cyclists celebrating Haitian Flag Day Saturday afternoon made their way to the Brooklyn Public Library steps at Grand Army Plaza.
"Culture, heritage, community, unity – that’s what it’s about," said Handal Alouidor, founder of Thrive Haiti. “That’s deeply in my heart, that’s what my family instilled in me, and I am just trying to share that with everyone.”
This was the fourth annual Thrive Haiti Ride & Fête to honor Haitian Flag Day. The 10-mile bike ride went from Grand Army Plaza to Drip Beverage Lounge in Flatbush. Riders told News 12 the weather didn't stop the celebrations.
"It was a little wet, but it was a lot of fun, a lot of music, vibes, energy," said Sheba Michel, of Bed-Stuy. "Everybody was just out supporting.”
The event's proceeds also went towards those struggling amid the crisis in Haiti.
“Everyone is trying to live their lives, so their fittest kids are trying, and I know there are some cyclists in Haiti who want to pursue our careers, so trying to come up with a way to support them," Alouidor said.
Many of the riders said they love to participate at the event because of the cause, and it keeps their culture alive in Brooklyn.
