The man accused of fatally shooting a 1-year-old boy in Brownsville appeared in court Friday.
According to police, Daquan Breland shot Antiq Hennis in the head while his father pushed him across the street in a stroller, exactly 11 months ago. They say Breland was handed a gun to shoot the little boy's father, Anthony Hennis, but instead the bullet hit his son.
In an interview with the Daily News, Breland reportedly expressed guilt, saying he never meant to hurt a child. However, he previously showed little emotion in court when he entered a not guilty plea.
Breland is charged with second-degree murder. If convicted, he faces 25 years to life in prison.
