The Darien High School boys basketball season may be over, but the team and its manager overcame a lot of challenges and adversity.

Ask anyone on the team and they will tell you their manager, Tripp Lyons always looks for the best in people. Some say basketball managers are the heart and soul of the team, and that is certainly the case with Lyons.

He gives two- to three-minute speeches before every game and hypes up the players, asking them to always remember why they play.

"I love that it's a team sport. It takes everyone working together and trying to win. I always must rely on people to help me, so I try to get them to work together and rely on each other," Lyons says.

Lyons says he has always dreamt about playing basketball with his teammates, but the teen has a disability that makes him nonverbal and requires the use of a wheelchair to get around.

However, Lyons received a big surprise when the coach called him to hit the court with the other players.

"I've never seen Tripp smile that big, so that was awesome," team captain Miles Drake says.

"People with disabilities can do anything they want. And I'm grateful my coaches, teammates, and family recognize that," Lyons says.
